Meet Dr. Sabeen Dhand: Limb Salvage Specialist at B&B Medical Group
Expanding Our PAD and Limb Salvage Capabilities
B&B Medical Group is pleased to welcome Dr. Sabeen Dhand to our team of vascular specialists in Bellflower. Dr. Dhand brings focused expertise in limb salvage — a subspecialty within vascular medicine dedicated to saving limbs that are at risk of amputation due to advanced Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) and related conditions.
What Is Limb Salvage?
Limb salvage refers to the coordinated effort to preserve a limb — typically a leg or foot — that is threatened by severe vascular disease. In advanced PAD, blood flow to the extremities becomes so restricted that tissues begin to break down. Non-healing wounds develop, infections take hold, and without intervention, amputation may become the only remaining option.
Limb salvage aims to prevent that outcome. Through a combination of revascularization procedures (restoring blood flow via angioplasty, stenting, or bypass), wound management, and coordinated care, the goal is to heal existing wounds, restore circulation, and preserve the patient’s mobility and independence.
Why Limb Salvage Matters
The impact of limb loss extends far beyond the physical. Patients who undergo major amputation face dramatically reduced mobility, loss of independence, prolonged rehabilitation, and significantly increased mortality rates in the years following amputation. For many patients — particularly those who are elderly, diabetic, or managing kidney disease — the consequences are devastating.
Every limb saved represents a patient who can continue walking, living independently, and maintaining their quality of life. That’s why early intervention and specialized expertise matter so much.
A Team Approach to Complex Cases
Limb salvage is rarely a single-procedure solution. It often requires a multidisciplinary approach involving vascular intervention to restore blood flow, wound care management, infectious disease treatment, endocrine management for diabetic patients, and physical therapy and rehabilitation.
Dr. Dhand’s addition to our team strengthens B&B Medical Group’s ability to manage these complex, multi-layered cases in coordination with referring nephrologists, endocrinologists, wound care specialists, and primary care physicians. If your patient has a threatened limb, we have the clinical depth to take on the case.
For Patients: When to Ask About Limb Salvage
If you or a loved one is living with any of the following, a limb salvage evaluation may be appropriate: chronic wounds on the feet or toes that haven’t healed despite weeks or months of treatment, gangrene or tissue death on the toes or foot, severe leg pain at rest (not just during walking), or a previous recommendation for amputation.
Before accepting amputation as inevitable, consider seeking a second opinion from a vascular specialist experienced in limb salvage. In many cases, restoring blood flow can change the trajectory entirely.
For Referring Providers: A Limb Salvage Partner in LA
If you manage patients with critical limb ischemia, chronic non-healing wounds, or threatened limbs, we encourage you to refer them for evaluation. Dr. Dhand and the B&B Medical Group team provide rapid evaluation, revascularization when appropriate, and close communication with referring providers throughout the treatment process.
